This site aims to provide information on the Hymenopterous parasitoids of the Phasmida. Principally the Chrysidid subfamilies Loboscelidiinae and Amiseginae are treated, but other parasitoids including Chalcids are included. For the Loboscelidiinae and Amiseginae it is aimed to produce a comprehensive taxonomic database - for other groups only the species that are parasitoids of phasmids will be included.

The Phasmida are known to be crop pests and can cause considerable damage as invasive species. On several occassions plague proportions have been reached. The host-parasite relationships of these groups are poorly understood and it his hoped that this site will facilitate and encourage further study.

Phasmida SpeciesFile

The Phasmida Species File (PSF) is a taxonomic database of the world's Phasmida (stick and leaf insects, known as walking sticks and walking leaves in the U.S.). It contains full synonymic and taxonomic information for over 2,940 valid species and over 4,500 taxonomic names (all ranks, valid and not valid). There are c. 26,000 citations to c. 2300 references. There are also over 5900 specimen records and 9000 images of two thirds of valid species, with more being added to on a regular basis. Keys to taxa will be added at a later stage.

To see information contained in the database, use the links across the top of the page.

The Phasmida SpeciesFile provides the phasmid taxonomy used on this site. The taxonomy is imported using an automated script developed by the Scratchpad project and uses a Taxon Concept Schema webservice provided and developed by the SpeciesFile team.

The Chrysidid Wasps of the World

The taxonomy of the Chrysidid subfamilies Amiseginae and Loboscelidiinae is taken from The Chrysidid Wasps of the World (Kimsey & Bohart, 1990). It is anticipated that over time this will be updated to include new species descriptions.
